About
Maritime exploration — a journey on or below the water — has created a shared maritime heritage that connects us to one another across time and place.
Polynesians traveled thousands of miles across the Pacific Ocean. Ancient Phoenicians ventured throughout the Mediterranean Sea into the Atlantic Ocean. African people moved using the Nile River.
As people ventured to places once unknown and unfamiliar, they opened new routes across the globe, and made new encounters. Cultures once separated by thousands of miles soon came into contact with one another.
Their journeys had consequences, both good and bad. But ultimately, people gained more knowledge about our world.
Who we serve
“Ages of Exploration” is a journey across four major time periods that brought new changes and understanding about the unique people and places everywhere.
The Mariners’ Museum and Park believes that we are all connected through the waters. We serve communities not just within our galleries, but through our digital content all over the world.
Through this site, we especially strive to support school-age curriculums, and provide resources to teachers, educators, and students.
Our goal
To provide an educational and informative website for research and learning, bring access to our Collection, and help you feel like a part of the shared maritime community that connects us all.
